Halloween Mantle

Here is my mantle for Halloween this year. I changed it up a bit from last year, keeping the window and shutter up instead of the painting I had there before.
I just added a spider web wreath and Halloween papers to the shutter. Oh and the pics on the shutter are of Sophia in her past Halloween costumes.

I think we are officially ready for Fall y'all!

Here's what it looked like last year.

3 Little Jack-O-Lanterns

After making my ghost and Boo! candle holders last year, I decided to make some jack-o-lanterns.
I'd been saving jars forever. I chose 3 that would make the perfect jack-o-lanterns.

So I used my Basic George Cricut cartridge to cut perfect triangles out of vinyl. Then I used an exacto knife to cut out the mouth shapes.

(I have another ghost in the works.)

Add a little orange spray paint....

And you have jack-o-lanterns.

Eek! A Spider Web Wreath

This year I wanted to make a wreath for our mantle for the Halloween season. Here's what I came up with....a spider web wreath.

I started with this wooden wreath from the $1 Store.

Spray painted it black.

Used a yarn called Cello in black (at Joann's, I think that's what it's called). You could also use Fun Fur but I like the Cello better because it's more wispy.

I used hot glue and a chip clip to hold it in place while it dried. I had other things going on, like dishes and dinner so I wasn't watching glue dry.

I had to use Zip Dry glue so I could use my fingers to attach the inside pieces.

Then I made the Eek! banner and used googly eyes inside the e's.

The spider....I used a pom-pom cut off of some pomp-pom sewing trim I had laying around, wrapped it in yarn.

Added googly eyes...

and made the legs from some ribbon that was very think and had a lot of body (all of this was spare stuff, laying around the house).

This is how it turned out. Not bad for spare parts and a $1 wreath .

I've Been Treasured!

Wow! I've been "treasured" over on Etsy.

Etsy account holders can create their own lists of things that they love (called treasuries) and my gratitude journal was just added over at

Wood Block Pumpkins

Here are my latest pumpkin creations. They were super easy and cheap.

We got a donation in the art room of miscellaneous odds and ends, including these chopped 2 x 4's and 1 x 2's. I couldn't think of anything to use them for at this time, so I decided to re purpose them for the home.I sent my husband to Home Depot to by another piece of wood and he was able to buy something from the scrap bin (it's the largest pumpkin in the back) for 51 cents and he just cut it into pieces for me.

To start with, I spray painted all pieces of wood black.

While they were drying, I cut pieces of paper that were slightly smaller than the front of the wood pieces.

When the spray paint had dried, I hot glued each wooden piece together to form my pumpkin.

Next, I modge podged the scrapbook paper on the front of each pumpkin. After it was dry, I hot glued a wine cork to be the stem. Last, I tied orange ribbon (using different different textures and styles of ribbon) for each pumpkin.

Super easy, inexpensive and cute!
