One Little Word.....A Little Behind

I'm a little behind on my One Little Word project. The prompt for March was to go back to January and to evaluate how you're doing on what you wanted to get out of this whole process. Well, my word was Present, as in being present, in the moment, aware. And I can tell you right now that I really haven't made progress on that. I have moments where I'm present and "in the moment". But I'm still doing too much multi-tasking.The March prompt wants you to evaluate your progress and then make a plan to help move your progress along.

My plan.....when I get home. Leave the TV turned off. Do not turn on my laptop. Leave my phone alone.
Play a game with Sophia (High-Ho-Cheerio is her current fave). Or go outside and play on her scooter. Or maybe involve her in  the dinner process.

So involve her in the dinner process I did....we made pizza.

And she LOVED it.
Quality time with my daughter = priceless.

Project 52- Week 15

So here's my pic for week 15. It's my friends Donna and Dina. They are also mother and daughter. Dina, the daughter, essentially threw her mom a surprise party. So sweet! Both ladies are super sweet! It was a really fun night and it was really fun surprising Donna!

Project 52- Week 14

My pic of the week is one that documents my daughter's illness, strep throat (with a virus on top of that). We could just not get her fever to go away. But I'm happy to report, she's back to her usual tricks. :) And Russell and are both back to our usual work routines.

Kaminski's Creations

So I saw my friend Kristy's blog, Next to Heaven. And she linked up to this cool blog party thing. So I decided why not....Let's link up....
My name is Erin. I'm a mother, artist and art teacher.  I have 2 blogs. One for my family stuff The Kaminski Chronicles and one for my creations, Kaminski's Creations.

Whether it's crafts for my daughter...

......Crocheting ... (here is the only scarf I have photographed).....but I have made a ton that I need to photograph....

Decorating my mantle.....(I LOVE decorating the mantle)!!!

I also LOVE finding diamonds in the rough at Goodwill that I can turn into treasures.

I also love scrapbooking. I turned that love into mini-books. One of my faves was my 365 Days of Gratitude.

Here's one mini-book called 52 Photos in 52 Weeks where I take 1 pic a week for 52 weeks.

Plus I organized all my cards into categories and made them into albums (thanks Pinterest!)!

I also LOVE photography and family traditions...here I gathered up different sized shoes, from birth to present to mark Sophia's two year old birthday.

I love repurposing found objects, like this old window.

I love making stained glass mosaics. I made this one with my 3rd graders at my school.

I love sewing!

I love practicality...having all your digits in one place (thanks Kristy for that idea).

Meet my family. My husband Russell. My daughter Sophia Grace.

Sophia is almost 4.

And she has changed my life forever;. Pre- Sophia, I NEVER worried about Holidays, decorating, etc. But since she was born, I  make it my goal to make holidays special.

The apple of my eye!

For the Love of Spray Paint

Oh spray paint, who do I love thee. Let me count the ways

Just wanted to make a post about spray paint because it's changed my life. It is the easiest solution to a color correction problem. Now when I'm buying things, I think about what color I can turn it into.
So I found this birdhouse on sale,e at Joann's for less than $3. I found the spray paint on sale for $2.97 at Joann's (so I bought it knowing I'd use it for something). When I got home and put the birdhouse on the mantle,  I didn't like the lack of contrast. It just didn't "pop".

So I opted to use my clearance spray paint and paint it blue. Now it "pops".

I found this lantern in the Joann's clearance section, and knew I loved "the bones" of the piece but the color was wrong for my dining/living room.

I can't remember the exact color but I think it was Krylon and oil rubbed something....I really wanted black but I didn't have it on hand.

But it looks perfect on my cherry red shelving unit .

And then again, sometimes, things just don't work out. I received this beauty via a gift exchange at my teacher friends Caddo camping trip. I just knew that if spray painted solid white, with pink candles, it would be perfect for Sophia's room. Unfortunately I didn't consider the wind when I spray painted. So it got blown across our backyard and  broke.

Oh, well. At least it was free.....so watch out for the wind.

I found this super cute frame that you hang pics on at Canton but after I hung it up it just did nothing for the wall.

I had some left over turquoise spray paint so I sprayed it. Now it feels right to me.

Next  up, I had this country wreath looking thang ( got it in Granbury many moons ago, I wanna say prior to Jack, even). But I loved the texture of the piece. So I stuck it my crafty closet.

I had found some clearance spray paint at Joann's ( when they say clearance, good luck getting it to work).  But after much frustration, I was able to finish the wreath and add it to the Spring Mantle.

Oh and that window was also a Canton find. A little spray paint and it feels new!

I must say, adding a little paint to something makes it feel like it doesn't have all the germs, dust, wear and tear, etc. It makes it feel fresh and new!
Happy spray painting!

Family Frame

Here's my new family frame.
Here's what it looked like when I picked it up at Goodwill (on half price Wed., the 3rd Wed of every month, at least in my area). So I snagged this piece for $2.50.
It reminded me of all those Tim Holtz trays that I see floating around on blogs.

So I spray painted it black. Spray paint/paint always makes something feel new to me.

I used a lot of For the Record collection by Echo Park and mixed it with scraps I already had.

I found these clips by Tim Holtz at Hobby Lobby. So I can change out the photos. I just used Super Glue to glue them in place. In fact, the super small photos are Instagrams.

I found this cute bottle filled with trinkets and sand that says LOVE on the front at Canton. I glued it in place.

I added our establishment date (our wedding date).

And Sophia's birth date (since she's an addition to our family and has forever changed our lives).

Then I added the pinwheels just to add some depth, interest and layers. I tried making many fabric flowers and I just didn't like the way it looked.

So that's it! My Tim Holtz knock off.
