The Shutter Project

I started with this old shutter that I bought at Canton (in the junk section) for $1. I'm not sure if that's a good price. But it sounded good to me. I cleaned it up with a little soap and water and a damp cloth.

Then I made a bunting using a placemat where I held down a length of twine down with clothespins. Then I stuck my triangles on top using Zip Dry. (P.S. I inked the edges of all the triangles, just cause, that's how I roll. And I started with a 4 inch square. It just depends on your shutter, or whatever you're adding a bunting to, but that size worked best. Scale is important).

Then I taped my bunting in place.

Then I added twine, clothespins and photos. Originally, I had clothes pinned 3 photos on one strand of twine. But that was just too much. So I edited.

Editing is so important! I leave things up for a while before I stick with it. And like with the bunting, I used tape before I used  a staple gun to make it final.

Inking the edges IS how you roll! It's like your little tradmark :).

What a cute project. I never can find old shutters, I must not be looking hard enough. I think it was smart to cut back on the photos. The simplicity is what makes it so beatiful.

If you get a a chance I would love it if you would share this tute at my Pin Party.

I think a dollar sounds like an awesome price for a shutter. It looks amazing as it's "after". Love the bunting! Thanks for sharing it on A Crafty Soiree, I've featured you in the newest one up tonight at midnight. Please come by and check it out!

Only A $1 for a shutter that size? The thrift stores are getting wise to what we do with things like that so the prices have gone crazy for shutters. That looks like a great one. It's hard to even find them anymore. Must be all the re-doers are grabbing them up?
I tend to hoard my shutters now for a project I really want until I can find more. My hubs made me a great shelf for living room wall last year and I just love it. The shutter was used on the bottom part against the wall and I had 2 brackets I'd been hoarding for years used for the braces on the shelf. I'm sure getting alot of mileage of that shelf, it's my mantel.
